September 2025 Work Party

The work party for 13th September 2025 consisted of 10 volunteers with nearly 80 hours of work being carried out in mostly dry summer weather. The work party was very productive with all the planned work being progressed as follows:

  • North of the Longley Farm crossing, the wheel rut infill with was completed, with 10 tonnes of sub-base. The sub-base infill was compacted with the wacker plate. This work will reduce the chance of bicyclist’s grounding their pedals and will make grass cutting easier and much safer. It will also help to drain water off to the sides and provide a better surface for path users and estate/farm vehicles.
  • The drainage ditches in the Peathillock cutting were cleared of organic material as far as possible and some deep potholes were infilled with sub-base. This will improve the drainage and prevent flood and washout damage to the path.

Other Points to Note

  • The rut infill needs to be blinded over with quarry dust to bind the sub-base and make the surface smooth.
  • There are further surface potholes to infill in the Peathillock cuttinge.
  • The Longley south gate hinge post has split and will not close easily. The hinge post needs to be replaced with a modified galvanised post as a matter of priority.
  • No accident or injuries were reported
